My Story

Heather James
Head Instructor

I was born a horse crazy girl in a non-horse family in the city of Spokane, WA. I took lessons here and there or did the occasional camp as a kid but finally started riding consistently around the age of 13. My first job was at Spokane Polo Club and I spent the next few summers there learning the basics of horsemanship. I began riding at Spokane Dressage, LLC in my high school years and not only learned to ride but also the ins and outs of groundwork with many young and green horses. My passion for horses followed me through my early twenties while I traveled from California to Colorado and back to Washington, riding cutting, reining, trail and dressage horses all along the way. I finally landed in western WA where I found my passion for teaching. I specialize in building confidence, starting a strong foundation on new riders, and helping riders learn how to look at the world from their horse's perspective. You will currently find me riding on our local drill team Northwest Renegade Cowgirls, taking ranch riding lessons from other local trainers, showing my mare Beanie in Western Dressage and Ranch Riding, and teaching students of course!

Why "Full Circle Horsemanship"? When I rebranded my program, I wanted the name to embody what type of horse and training that I was trying to accomplish. I find so much value in the all-around horse and rider and believe that every horse out there, no matter their discipline, should be confident enough to have a rope swung over their head, go on a trail ride, ride over a small cavaletti, ride with a flag, know simple dressage maneuvers, and more. The more well-rounded the horse, the more fun you can have! I also found as I have grown in my career that in learning to ride and training our horses, everything comes back to the basics. Most horses that are having any issues under saddle or behavioral issues need to go back to their foundation and fill any gaps, and the training truly goes full circle.

Happy Trails! 🐴❤️
